Thrifty Foods & Food Pavilion

  • Client: Brown & Cole

About the project:

Thrifty Foods a local Skagit Valley company evolved to Food Pavilion a known brand that was implemented in various forms across the state. Cost Cutter was the “Price Image” brand also replicated in stores with a primarily Latino market around Washington and Oregon.

Schell Design Group collaborated with Dykeman Architects and the owner to form a design team with the goal of producing a prototype Food Pavilion store that effectively engages and reflects the communities served. One of the successful solutions that captures unique local color includes lively, dimensional perimeter murals that showcase local faces, produce and environment. The created sales environments include wayfinding signage, aisle markers, POS displays, directories, menus in an integrated palette of warm colors and surfaces.

About Brown & Cole:
Founded in 1909, Brown & Cole is the oldest retail food company in Washington. Based in Bellingham, it owns and operates stores under several trade names, including Food Pavilion, Cost Cutter, Food Depot and Save-On-Foods. The majority of the company's stores are in the northern Puget Sound and central Washington areas.
